This year, my students have been consuming novels faster than I can keep new ones stocked! I have learned a great deal about them through their reading interests and discussing literature with them. I would like to keep their joy and excitement alive by adding some fresh new titles for them to explore independently or in small book blub groups. If selected, eight book titles totaling 45 books from authors like Ta'Nehesi Coates, Jason Reynolds, and Jacquline Woodson will provide a diverse reading experience for my students. These three authors provide African-American protagonists that I know many of my students will relate with. Some of my students have struggles with their family, so books like Before We Were Yours and Little Fires Everywhere are my picks for them. Lastly, I have students who are interested in fantasy, mythology, and historical fiction, and I am hoping they will find Circe, Children of Virtue and Vengeance, and Beneath a Scarlet Sky rewarding. My goal is to keep kids interested in reading by providing as many diverse new texts as possible.
