  • Literature Circles & Class Novels for 9th Graders

    Funded Jan 19, 2022

I am so grateful for thinking about your teachers during this difficult time. With these books students will be able to form their own literature circles to guide their own learning. They will be able to choose the books they want to read based on their interests and reading comfort.

You’ve also donated TWO class sets of two different dystopian novels, which we will read and experience as a class to discuss modern day issues and the human experience.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Macias

  • Reading Leads to Empathy

    Funded Sep 17, 2021

This school year has been difficult for many educators and students. However, thanks to your donations we have been able to spread literary cheer among our middle schoolers at Canyon View Junior High School.

In fact, many of your book donations included books that were included on the long list for the Beehive Book Awards Children's Literature Association of Utah. Students enjoyed reading the books that were on the list and trading with their peers when they were done reading them. It was fun watching them give each other book recommendations and have conversations about the books you donated.

Additionally, students were able to fill out a survey for the Beehive Book Award to help decide which books to place on the short list of the Beehive Book Nominees. They felt honored to be able to participate in deciding which books will be widely shared to and read by teenagers in Utah.

Thank you for making this possible for my students during this time of uncertainty. My students and I appreciate your donation and value our new books.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Macias

  • Finding Empathy & Joy in Books

    Funded Jun 19, 2021

This school year has been challenging for both educators and students, yet your donations have made it possible to spread literature cheer among our middle schoolers.

Students have been able to check-out and read books even while they're quarantined. Also, several of the books you have donated have made it to the Beehive Book Awards Children's Literature Association of Utah.

My students have taken turns reading the books on the Beehive Book list and passed them along to their peers when they are done reading them. Additionally, students have had the option to review the books and help the association decide which books to place on the short lit of the Beehive book Nominees.

Without your donations, my students would have had to purchase the books on their own or be placed on a waiting list. Thank you so much for thinking about us!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Macias

  • Headphones for Blended Learning

    Funded May 6, 2020

Because of your donations, the students in our Reading Literature class has highly benefited from the new additions to our classroom library. Books are being checked out daily, and students have even set a goal to read at least 20 books before the semester ends at the end of December.

The books have been displayed on our bookshelves with the cover facing out as they lay flat. This has the covers do what they were intended to do! Students are able to see the pictures, titles, and authors of each novel, which can intrigue students to pick up the book.

We thank you for your generosity.”

  • Empathy Through Literature

    Funded Mar 3, 2020

Thank you for your generous donations to our classroom library. My students have been able to read about characters from different backgrounds and lifestyles, which has greatly impacted the way they dismantle the single story of others.

Students have been eagerly checking out books from our library and reading them enthusiastically. Several students have even finished books in less than 24 hours!

Now more than ever, my students have benefited from having a classroom library since our school library is closed due to COVID-19. I couldn't have surrounded them with diverse books if it wasn't for you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Macias

These students are located in Orem, Utah. They are eager to figure out where they belong in our school and community. Our classroom focuses on fostering opportunities to be curious and welcome failure because we believe in growth mindset. My students are exposed to 21st century skills like critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication. Personalization through blended learning is a big part of my students' lives as they begin to learn that learning can look different for everyone, and that they can actually design their learning path. We learn to grow from mistakes, we laugh, we cry, we rely on each other.
