  • Chic Organization

    Funded Oct 31, 2024

Thank you for providing me with the materials to organize my classroom. In the bins on the tables, I hold resources for my students. I have one class with five different languages, the bins were large enough to hold dictionaries from multiple languages. Also, in the bins I have smaller containers where I placed pens, pencils, and highlighters for students to use if they do not have one of their own.

On the teacher's cabinet, I appreciate the black bins. I use the set to hold student work. For example, when scholars come in with their homework, they place their assignments in the slots labeled for their class. This helps to prevent papers from being misplaced because students and I have a visual space where they can leave materials.

So, my sincere gratitude in helping me organize where resources are more student centered and autonomous.”

  • For the Love of My Sister-SEL/CRSE in the Classroom

    Funded Jul 21, 2024

I have a mixture of students in classes. This year, I have a lot of new arrivals; therefore, they are in the process of learning English. For these scholars, I introduce a lot of vocabulary words so that they have familiarity visually when possible and the definition of the words also. Not only do I have students pre learn the vocabulary, but I have students read out loud with a partner, preferable one that does not speak their language. This method forces students to develop their oral language and builds self confidence.

Since I have a strong immigrant population, my students love reading books about characters that have similar background or experiences as they do. This is one way to build community since SEL/CRSE is about building community and self worth.”

  • How Do You Feel?

    Funded Aug 12, 2024

Thank you for your donations. My scholars and I sincerely appreciated your donations. We were able to use the materials to get to know each other. Through the snacks and dice, students were able to break bread "snacks" with each other. Through food and an interactive way to communicate, young adults were able to speak to each other.

The first two months of school is important for students to reconnect with their peers that they did not see over the summer. Also, its where new students begin to bond with their new environment. This donation provided young ladies with the opportunity begin to build a community.”

  • Group Work

    Funded Jan 19, 2024

Thank you for donating to our project. With this project, scholars were able to annotate literature in class and create projects that reflect the text that we were reading. As with most classroom, at least one scholar is missing a pen or pencil throughout their academic experience, but supplying my class with pens, pencils, and the sharpener, my scholars are always prepared for class. Once again thank you for the contributions to our academic experience.

My students are extremely delighted to have these supplies in our classroom. Simple gestures can make it easy for a scholar to come into their classroom and not feel any different from their peers. By having these supplies, each child is on the same levels for creative assignments. They don't have to worry about buying materials to complete a project.”

  • Literature to The World

    Funded Jul 20, 2023

Thank you for your donations. In this unit, we discussed some of themes found in gothic novels. We looked at the AP standards, this allowing us to study setting, characterization and work on crafting substantial essays.

To read these novels, my co-teachers and I participate in parallel teaching in one class. One group of students read one novel and another group read a different novel. This allows for more collaboration. Based on my observations, students did enjoy reading the novels. This unit allowed students to engage with texts that they often seen adopted on television, but never took the time to read.”

  • Headphones for Girls

    Funded Sep 21, 2020

Scholars were able to use the headset in various ways at my school. Some students were able to use the headset in Career Readiness and Modern Youth Apprenticeship (CRMYA) program. With the headset, they are able to log into their internship from school and participate in their required course.

Our nineth grade integrated math class was able to log into their virtual tutoring program and meet with their tutors using the headsets. By meeting with their tutors one-on-one, scholars were able to get individual tutoring sessions. The headsets allowed them to not disturb their peers and also not be distracted by multiple conversations taking place at the same time.

Finally, our students were able to the headset when one of my coworkers on maternity leave. They were able to log into their iLearn and listen to their Spanish lessons without distractions.

All parents or students are not able to financially afford an ear pod or other listening device, so these headset allowed everyone access to their education.”
