This project seeks to give PreK students experience in gardening, butterfly life cycles, and fish tank management. Exposure to STEM in PreK creates lifelong knowledge of exploration, critical thinking, mathematics, and engineering. My students will have the opportunity to grow sunflowers and vegetables from seed. They will care for the garden as part of their school day through watering and fertilizing. They will grow milkweed to attract caterpillars so they can witness the lifecycle of a butterfly. Fishtanks in the classroom will allow my four year olds to manage the fish, water levels, and feedings. Fish care teaches responsibility and exposure to variables of fish tank health, like algae and water filtration. The project gives my students a STEM classroom that they can measure growth of their garden and fish tanks with the iPAD through a digital library of pictures. Additionally, the iPAD can be used to give my students knowledge of photographic skills and composition. We will be able to upload the pictures to our social media as well.
