  • To Read or not to Read?

    Funded Dec 29, 2023

I want to share my appreciation for you kindness to my students at Harrison. Your generation donations to my project has allowed me to motivate my students to read more. Not only that, it also has help to captivate their attention when I share books and information with them.

After I have read and we have discussed the weekly subject, I ask question to see who has paying attention. The bookmarks, pencils and especially the stickers have become great motivators to pay attention every week. In addition, I was able to give these tokens out to our students during our Read Across America Starbooks cafe in the library.

Again, many thanks from my students and I.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alvarez

  • Reach Reluctant Readers with Graphic Novels!

    Funded Jan 9, 2022

Your kind and generous donation has made a great impact in my library. My students have been greatly deprived of reading material during the pandemic, which in turn has in someway impacted their reading levels. These much sought after graphic novels have been a welcomed and much needed source of reading material.

These books of all levels have inspired my students to read a book from cover to cover. And this is because they can actually read the shorter text content. In addition to the shorter text, the visual are a great help for them. This grant allowed me to get books into their hands that they may otherwise never know where available to them. Being able to complete an entire book builds confidence in my students, which I hope will push them to further read more.”

  • Hands-On Learning Made Fun!

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

Thank you for your generous donation to my students. The addition of these materials to our school library has been a welcomed surprise. Our school is in the process of being certified as a STEAM school and the added component in the library further bridges the continuity of learning. My students can use their acquired skills in a fun and creative manner. The library is already a hub of activity and a much loved space in our school, these new and fun materials have just elevated the library to the next level. Many thanks to you all.”

  • Vamos A Leer! Let's read!

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

My students were greatly impressed with your donation. Over the years our library has lost many of the Spanish reading materials. It greatly diminishes the choices available to our students that have yet to embrace the English language.

Because our school is on year 3 of a dual language program it is imperative that we have materials available to all our students, but more specifically those in the dual language program. Image their surprise when they saw Huevos verdes con jamon alongside Green eggs and ham, and Laz zanahorias maleficas alongside Creepy carrots just to name two. Your great donation of 50 books will go along way to encourage our students to read and embrace the Spanish language.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alvarez

  • Readers are Leaders!

    Funded Sep 16, 2020

Thank you all for the kindness shown to me and my students. Because of your generous donation I have the necessary technology to continue sharing the importance of literature with my students. I'm able to work daily with small groups and also share story time on a weekly basis with all of my students if they choose to join. As you can see by the photos, we haven't skipped a beat; I have been able to continue our regular seasonal themes and even shared added activities that students can do at home. Distance learnings cannot replace what we know as normal learning, but your donation has helped bridge the two together.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alvarez

This project will help me connect with my students through weekly read aloud as we regularly would in the library. Regular class visits consist of current event topics, read alouds and group discussion. My students not only look forward to learning something new every week, they expect it. Having a working and fast computer would allow me to connect with my students via zoom and other platforms for our weekly reading and discussion. I would be able to share with them where to find reading sources while the library is closed.
