Graphic Novels are the go-to books in our school library! There are never enough, and this project would go about fixing this problem. With more titles available, we have more students reading for pleasure. Pleasure reading leads to increased comprehension and fluency. Graphic Novels are a perfect fit for our English as a Second Language learners. First of all, they are of high interest. Also, the images help students with understanding the text by providing visual clues. This allows them to learn new words based on these clues from the pictures. The feelings of success when a student can actually finish a graphic novel leads to more positive beliefs in themselves as readers. Our students have already shown an interest in Graphic Novels. This project will only enrich their experiences with the written word and their successes as readers.
