Flexible seating will exponentially help each of my 24 students gain control over their environment and to feel comfortable in their learning space. Our current classroom desks are too small for most of the children, which is disruptive and overwhelming. The over the chair organizers will provide them with an organizational system to help those especially with executive functioning issues, stay on track and learn to organize and prioritize, which are essential life skills. Traditional seats can make students territorial or possessive over their space and supplies. Daily flexible seating options will encourage students to share as well as to take turns. Options can also be used as a way to motivate and engage. More engaged students leads to a better learning experience and less disruptive behavior. The wobble balls will be used as sensory input tools for students with ADHD, ASD, and ADD to help them focus on daily lessons. Currently, our classroom has one borrowed wobble cushion for the OT department. It works wonders for students who need to get the wiggles out in order to engage in the learning process. The items I have chosen will benefit my students who learn best with movement and sensory input. The rug will be spread out in our "Reading Nook." During open circle or small group reading time, the rug will provide a welcoming and safe place. When students are uncomfortable, they are disruptive and distracted. The rug will also be a great spot for small groups to gather. Comfortable students are calm focused and productive. Our inclusive classroom could really use seating options that fits the needs of all!
