One of my book club favorite books is The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. The book discusses major themes such as being born different, justice, becoming who you are, compassion, bravery, abuse, and kindness. The lessons and mistakes are bountiful with deep characters battling the dark and searching for the light. All the characters from Despereaux, his father, Roscorro, or Miggery Sow are robust characters where students get to dive deep and read beyond the text-discuss-write and analyze Literacy Standards in small groups with the teacher and their peers. With your help, we can bring that book club spirit to our Spanish readers and have intriguing books for them to explore and get lost in the world of excellent reads.
