Although simple items, lap pads and noise cancelling headphones are a game changer in my self-contained special education classroom. My student's needs, are as unique and require individualized plans to ensure they are able to maximize their learning and successfully engage with their peers. For some of my students, they are extremely impacted by the stimuli that often we are able to "tune out" during our daily routine. For example, the lunchroom noise and conversation we may enjoy can be overwhelming. Noise cancelling headphones provide a barrier for my students, which allow them to engage with their typically developing peers during lunch, recess, and school-wide assemblies. In addition, lap pads can also aid in the process of self-regulation by providing deep pressure their bodies crave. Your support will help my students enjoy the simple tasks we may take for granted. Please help me ensure my student have the best opportunity to succeed!
