My students love to read. All of my students are ELL students and they always have a book in their hand! I want to give my students an opportunity to see themselves in the stories they read. My whole class is African American (many Somali). Books like, “The Proudest Blue”, give my female students to read and see a book with a girl wearing here hijab proudly. Books like “Crown” give my boys the opportunity to see themselves with a fresh hair cut.
I put chairs on the wish list to give students a new way of reading. I have some very energetic boys and girls in my class. Giving them something were they can able to move when reading will help them sit down in one and help get the wiggles out.
