  • Building Language Library

    I am so grateful for your gift to benefit my students in the Ogden School District. I have used the items you gifted us to create units for children who struggle to communicate. My students can be tricky at times to find what motivates them to practice their communication skills and these activities books and games have really motivated them to want to communicate. The clear containers allow students to see what is in the box and use their voice, communication device, PECS cards, or any other method to request specific items.

    My students were so excited when they saw all the clear containers with activities, books and games! They have requested their favorite items again and again! It is so wonderful!

    I plan to continue building this library for all the students in the district who struggle to communicate their basic wants and needs.”

My students with special language needs benefit from multiple exposures and different methods of presentation to really learn and use a particular skill. I use hands on learning experiences and games as part of my tool box to help my students acquire knowledge and use new skills. I teach a wide range of students, from Pre-K to 6th grade, although most of my students are in the younger grades. Many of my students struggle with phonemic awareness skills as well as with general language skills. These language based games and hands on learning opportunities will give my students a chance to improve their phonemic awareness abilities and general language skills. This, "See It! Practice It! Know It!" project will benefit multiple students in a variety of grades.
