  • ELL Friendly Classroom Library

    Funded Jul 22, 2023

Thank you so much for contributing to the literacy development of our students. Our high school students are learning English as a new language and need as much support as they can get. These funds were used to buy books that teach phonics and how to identify sound patterns as they read.

Now during class we can read out loud together and use the images provided for contextual support. They learn new vocabulary words and review them through the repeating text patterns. They feel more confident as readers with texts available they can understand.

Some students brought books home to share with their families and practice out loud for homework. They can get through an entire book in one sitting which keeps them motivated.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Eliza

  • Classroom Resources

    Funded Apr 24, 2023

My students love books at their level about people to whom they can relate. They need a selection of high interest novels to choose from and will be using them to write and present literary analysis. They will not only learn how to improve their reading skills and fluency but how to make good choices. Many of our students arrive with little or no English skills so they need books that engage them in order to learn. They will truly enjoy the books on this list and sharing them with their classmates.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Eliza

  • Keyboards for Writing Class

    Funded Mar 12, 2020

Due to your kindness we now have keyboards for high school students that need to develop typing skills. Your donation will leave a lasting impact on their lives. My students are very grateful to have the technology they need to be competitive and develop their voice as active writers in the community.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Eliza

Our entire school shares a small number of iPad keyboards that get designated to the upper grades. The 9th and 10th graders get stuck writing essays on their touchpads. With no keyboards, our students do not have the opportunity to learn how to type until they reach 11th grade. By this time, they are typing so slowly it is frustrating and hard for them to meet deadlines. Please help give my 60 students keyboards for their 9th - 10th grade writing class so they can learn how to type their essays. This will prepare them for success after high school.
