I am looking for these diverse books to showcase in my classroom to help my students see themselves in literature, but also to see how to accept others through literature. In today's day and age, issues around gender, race, sexual orientation, and nationality are pushing on our students. Literature is the best way to include all people in our classrooms- one book at a time. I want my students to grapple with complex, real-world issues so they can be better prepared for life outside of my classroom. Through literature, I want my students to ask hard questions and take action... and these books are our starting place.
