  • Big Help for Little Hands

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

I can not express how grateful I am for your kind and generous donation. Kindergarten is using technology now more than ever before. The students have been amazing learning the process of accessing our school activities online and submitting work.

The tablets were too heavy to hold while doing their work and when they were placed flat on the table, they had to lean over to see the screen. These stands have been so helpful and the students have been able to hold their attention longer. The tablet stands are so flexible and it helps make learning more successful and easy to access.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Brock

  • "Protect" Our Learning!

    Funded Jan 30, 2022

Thank you so much for helping our classroom purchase tablet sleeves and styluses. The students were so excited to look so "professional" walking out of the school with the tablet sleeve swaying at their side.

The sleeve helped keep the tablets safe and accommodated other necessary items such as the charger, stylus pen, and log in cards. Before, we had to send everything home separately so not everything was returned to the school. Now there is a compartment with the tablet sleeve (bag) that allows for transportation and protection of items other than the tablet itself. So far the tablets and miscellaneous materials have been returned in great condition.

The quality of student work has improved by the use of the stylus pens. They are able to mimic the strokes in writing they do with an actual pencil, which helps develop their small motor skills. Before, the students were using their fingers to practice handwriting on their device. The use of the stylus has enabled students to control hand, finger, and wrist movement to present more neat looking handwriting.

The sleeves and styluses will help continue to improve student learning and work practices for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Brock

  • Help Us "BUILD" an Understanding of Our World!

    Funded Feb 22, 2020

I can not express how thankful I am for your generous donation. Schools today are so focused on academic skills that it is forgotten that many skills can also be acquired through the use of hands on materials, especially math, science, and technology. The students were so excited when the items arrived. I displayed the boxes to allow the students to begin strategizing how they will use the items to come up with unique and creative masterpieces. Discussions that were heard referred to building a bridge for the goats to escape the troll (we had just finished reading The Three Billy Goats Gruff...we were trying to find alternate ways the goats could have bypassed the troll) to creating a marble run that would symbolize a waterslide (little engineers at work). Of course building materials are for fun and play, but we look forward to using the materials to further enhance our understanding and imagination in combination with our math, science, and literacy units. What can we build to house caterpillars so they can safely transition to their chrysalis? What house can we construct for the 3 pigs that would withstand the strong wind brought on by the wolf's huffing and puffing? How can we use the building materials to show 9 is greater than 6? The materials purchased with your donation will be greatly used and loved for years to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Brock

Learning involves more than paper and pencil. Children learn through manipulation of hands on activities. We will use the Melissa and Doug floor puzzles to use our spatial awareness to place the pieces together. Being able to manipulate a puzzle piece by rotating and translating the shape to fit another increases their understanding in math. The Magnetic Building Sticks will be used to make various shapes to construct models of buildings and landscapes students are familiar with, as well as test out a hypotheses in a science experiment. The Kindergarten Core Standards (Standard K.G.5 Model and create shapes/ Standard K.G.6 Compose simple shapes to form larger shapes) set the expectation that children can analyze, compare, and create various shapes and structures using existing shapes. In science they are given a task to construct a bridge with various blocks to allow a "boat" to float under it. These types of activities will engage students in mathematical and scientific processes that will encourage critical thinking and problem solving which they will encounter throughout their lives inside and outside of school. The availability of various building materials in my classroom will allow these young children the opportunity to explore and manipulative objects using critical thinking skills that will enhance their learning skills in later grades. I want to provide learning opportunities that encourage and excite students to seek out STEM related activities as well as develop a high appreciation and interest in the fields of science and math.
