Little Learners Learn by Listening
Funded Aug 13, 2021Wow! This project and the materials that you supplied to my classroom have greatly increased a love of reading in my students! The red reading phones from Lakeshore enable children to use them to hear themselves read!
Each child has their own "reading phone" labeled with their name for use during our quiet reading block. This was so necessary during this pandemic as I no longer have to worry about the germs that might be spread if children are sharing the reading phones. I find that my students not only use the reading phones during quiet reading time, but they also reach for them periodically throughout the day to "discuss" directions with themselves or to read a book during free time.
Although the phones are small, the impact is tremendous! Please know that your donation is encouraging confidence and a love of reading in my Connecticut classroom full of beautiful children from varied ethnic backgrounds. Thank you so very much!”

Funded May 4, 2021How awesome that you contributed funds which helped our classroom function more fluidly!
The children were so excited when the big boxes arrived from Lakeshore! We unpacked them together and assembly was actually very simple. Then we were ready to organize!
We removed the abc magnet boards (complete with 26 tiny magnets), the small white boards, the whiteboard markers, erasers and the phonics workbooks (lots of little pieces, right?) Then each child was given a drawer in their choice of color and the organization was amazing.
Each day when we do our phonics lessons, the children can quickly grab their drawer and remove the piece or pieces necessary for each part of the lesson. Because of your donation, we are wasting much less time which results in more time for children to focus on learning to read--my most important goal for my students in kindergarten.
I am amazed at your generosity. It really does make a difference in my classroom full of beautiful children from many ethnic backgrounds and low-income families. Because of you, there will be 19 more readers in the world who will achieve great things!”

Mrs. Falcetti

Funded Feb 20, 2020During this incredibly stressful time in our schools, I have still been unable to use the wonderful listening center that you donated to my classroom.
I received the donation a few day before our school shut down completely due to the Covid-19 epidemic. I had unpacked it, wow-ed my students with the news that someone wanted to invest in OUR classroom, in THEIR education and was in the process of teaching them how to appropriately use it. I had borrowed a few book/CD combos from a fellow teacher and felt that it would soon be a regular, important part of my language arts block in my kindergarten classroom. And then, the shutdown.
It was a sad day when I returned sometime in early May to pack up the classroom for the summer. I had to pack away our brand new listening center too.
Please know that I appreciate your gift! I am still unable to bring it out as it would be a shared material that would put children closer than 6 feet from each other. We are also unable to use any shared materials in our school. Each child must stay in his/her own desk, using his/her own materials and books.
I plan to send pictures and notes from my students either later this school year (fingers crossed!) or next year.”

Mrs. Falcetti
