I have a computer lab that is used by 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Throughout the day, these students change classrooms multiple times. They have a lunch break and some outside time if weather permits. While Physical Education is required, it is only a one semester class that they attend every other day. This leaves very little time for physical activity throughout the day. While these students are no longer at primary age, it is still difficult for them to sit all day in a classroom with little movement. I am hoping to fill my lab with a flexible seating option for everyone if they chose to use it. Just as everyone learns differently, everyone does not do the best sitting still in a class all day. Not only is my lab used for class every day, but it is also used for testing. I think flex seating could help a student with an inability to sit still, with test anxiety, or even the student who missed their outside time and just needs to move a little. These items will allow students to wobble, wiggle, sit higher or lower, and fidget their legs without being a distraction to others. I'm hoping that with flexible seating in the classroom, students will be able to feel more at ease while being able to complete all of their work and have a successful day at school.
