The students in second grade will have the opportunity to experience the magic that is musical theater. Part of the second grade curriculum is learning about plays, rhythm and beats. Real life experiences are the most meaningful forms of learning. As a second grade team, we would like to take our students to watch Junie B. Jones the Musical. The students will be reading this book in class, prior to going on the trip. Then, after the students watch the musical they will discuss with their class how the musical and book were similar or different, and how the beats and rhythm add more feeling to the story. To add to the experience, the students will dress in their best and make this experience all the more engaging. The students I work with come from a low-income background and they lack the resources to participate in such powerful trips. Every student deserves to have memorable experiences in school, I want every second grade student to look back and smile at this memory.
