Thank you so very much for choosing my class to support! Your donation has arrived and we are slowly beginning to get into it.
As things have changed, I've had to adjust my instruction to postpone using the drones until the 4th quarter.
The students have been exposed to coding activities from our technology teacher and have loved it! I'm hoping that these coding skills that they are learning can translate to being able to operate and learn about the drones.
They were so excited when I told them that we'd be working with drones!
Next steps are to introduce the drones to my students, understand the working components, and have rich discussions as teams of four about how to problem solve.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Hawai'i State Department of Education.

The drones will inspire students to dream big and develop their 21st Century skills of critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, perseverance and collaboration. They will extend their learning at home by doing research on nature and how they can apply it to drones. Students will go through the Engineering Design Process, or EDP, to ask important questions, develop a plan, create their drones, experiment and gather data, make modifications, and prepare for the challenge. This project will hopefully lead into the district drone competition at the high school level. This will help to develop relationships with other elementary schools and get my students excited about science when they enter high school.
