  • Student Game Corner

    Funded Sep 10, 2024

Thank you for helping us create a mindful center in our library where students engage in old school board games. We envisioned this as an opportunity for students to stay off their phones, reconnect with each other in positive ways, and regain the fondness of their childhood before social media took over. We are pleased that the students enthusiastically took to the games and were excited about playing them.

Students participate in exciting rounds of UNO, work to get to the coveted Park Plae in Monopoly, and spend the lunch period decoding the maze games with enthusiasm. It has truly been a pleasure to watch!”

  • Water Is Life

    Funded Jan 16, 2024

We are thankful to receive the water for our "Water is Life" project. One of the most important aspects in student life is to keep students nourished. This means both their minds and their bodies. It is no surprise that students often go throughout the day without nourishment. There are many reasons, some including that cafeteria food isn't always the most appetizing. Many of our students relied on the vending machines in school for food. However, as of last year, all vending machines were pulled from NYC schools, including the ones that provided water. Without this additional resource, students have been scouring the building for bottles of water, and while we do what budget allows on our end, the water goes quick. As such I decided to create this project and was pleasantly surprised to receive the funds. Such a small thing like water has brought endless joy to the students who come to my office to grab a bottle. When the water runs out, I can see genuine sadness in their eyes. Thank you for helping me nourish the minds and bodies of students who deserve these resources without gaps.”

  • Food and Water For My Students

    Funded Jan 5, 2022

It goes without saying that food is something that connects us all. Thank you for making an impact on my students. With your donation, you were able to put some serious smiles on the face of kids who ask for so little but appreciate so much. I knew the snacks would be a hit, but was additionally surprised at just how much the students appreciated them. It always shocks me that students can go all day without food. It contributes to the weakened attention spans and lack of energy throughout the day. Having access to the snacks when hungry or thirsty gave them an instant boost of energy. But more than that, it gave them pleasure to see that someone cared enough to put this together and to donate the funds in order for them to have these snacks. The donation was bigger that just chips and cookies. It was a sign that there are people in this world that care about their well being. For that, thank you so much for getting this project funded.”

With the everyday stresses of juggling high stakes academics with the life of being a teenager in the busiest city on earth, our students crave a space to practice the Mindfulness and Mediation techniques we offer them as coping strategies at our school. What began as a "Safe Space" where students gathered during lunch to read and do Homework in a quite environment, evolved into a meditation center, where students are welcome to hot chocolate and tea, relaxing music and dim lights. The aesthetic additions we are requesting will replace old and ragged furniture to make for a warm and welcome environment.
