  • New Backpacks Filled With New Supplies!

    Funded Aug 13, 2021

My deepest apologies for the lateness of this THANK YOU! Your generosity allowed us to let students "shop" for supplies for the new school year and as you will see in the pictures I will post, their faces say it all. Our event created a sense of excitement for the year ahead.

Then the year ahead got started and it was non -stop learning and action! And all the while, our students had their backpacks and school supplies to learn, create and imagine. We greatly appreciate your support of our school and our students and we wish you a beautiful summer! People like you make the world a better place!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marie

  • Charge Up My Students' Ability to Learn!

    Funded Mar 5, 2021

The past year has been challenging for schools around the country, and definitely at our school in Brooklyn, especially when it came to the technology gap and how that affected students' access to remote learning. Sometimes a student would be ready and excited to log in for instruction, but found that their device wasn't charged and the charger had been lost or damaged. Many times that meant no learning for the day.

Thanks to your donation I have been able to quickly fix this problem the next time the students came to school. Our students, their parents, and our whole school community appreciate your generosity.

    Wishing you all the best!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marie

  • Help Give my Students a Boost of Self Confidence!

    Funded Nov 30, 2020

Thank you so much for funding my project to give a copy of Derrick Barnes' I Am Every Good Thing to every Kindergarten and First Grade student at PS 676 in Red Hook, Brooklyn. I read the book to each class and then distributed individual copies to the students. Each book was inscribed with the student's name and the phrase "You are every good thing!" The kids were thrilled.

The experience I had reading the book to First Grade was especially moving and memorable. As I was reading, a spontaneous call and respond began. I'd read, "I am a nonstop ball of energy. Powerful and full of light," and the students would repeat it back to me, through the whole book! (The pictures I am submitting are from this class!)

Thank you again for your generous donation. Your kindness is greatly appreciated by all of us at PS 676!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marie

  • May I Have Your Autograph? Help My Students Learn Cursive!

    Funded Mar 6, 2020

We are so incredibly grateful for your generous donation and so incredibly excited to get started learning cursive! Get ready for some beautifully written thank you notes! : )

I am especially thankful to all of you because this was my very first Donors Choose project ever, and it means a lot to me that it caught your attention and drew you in. It will always hold a special place in my heart!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marie

In New York City public schools, students are no longer taught how to write in cursive. Not only does this make it difficult for children to read cursive when they encounter it, it also makes it impossible for them to sign their names as adults -- unless they learn it outside of the basic curriculum. Please help fund this project for cursive writing workbooks for our fourth and fifth graders. They will be able to use the workbooks during free time in class and during our weekly arts & crafts lunch club. I am excited to watch them learn and to see how they add their own flourishes to their writing! Thanks for considering our project!
