It has become known that learning that is interactive, tactile, and creative supports more profound and longer-lasting synaptic connections within the brain. Making these strong connections is SO important, especially when acquiring a new language, since we are learning not just new information but a whole new code, an entirely novel system that our brains need to decipher and store. But what good does time in the classroom do if it's not spent effectively and efficiently? And even if time is spent effectively, how can we provide a way students will keep and further foster those connections after a week or year? Interactive notebooks! Please help me provide my students with the ability to hand-design their own "textbook" throughout the year and create a multidimensional language acquisition tool that will not only engage them in the classroom but also encourage extra study throughout their young adult lives. I know, just from observation and personal experience, students are often looking for things to do with their hands. What better way to stave off cell phones and extra copies of lost handouts than with personalized language journals that each student can feel unique ownership of! In addition to boosting student engagement and creativity, these interactive notebooks will help me and my students organize our thematic units and materials from the various language-learning resources we access. As a teacher not tied to a sole resource or textbook, I research heavily in order to find the absolute best language acquisition and comprehensible input resources for my students. Notebooks will help us consolidate these materials to make one cohesive guide that reflects our unique and progressive curriculum! Thank you so much in advance for your consideration and donation!
