Throughout all of this online teaching, my school district has come up with the plan of sending home learning agendas. In these agendas, we map out what a student's day of home learning should be like. My team and I plan these agendas to help teach students the essential components of the second grade. These agendas have embedded links to BrainPOP, PDFs, Epic books, Google Forms, and so much more. We methodically plan out activities that are feasible at home for students and parents. Although there are so many great things that come with online learning, the biggest comment I feel is missing for students is the social-emotional components of school. These lessons are essential to the development of any younger-aged students. Knowing when to speak in class, learning how to share, and creating friendships based on kindness and compassion are not easily taught from a website. Three times a week I meet with my class over Google Meet. We talk about how students are doing and often read a story during this time. I am asking for donations to help supply me with the books to teach my students these social-emotional components that they are missing out on learning right now. A good story with a lesson is unforgettable.
