Letting Out the Wiggles is a way our students make it through the day in order to learn the skills that they need to learn, grow, and become independent. Many of the students receive information through different ways of input. Some of these inputs are pressure, weight, texture, smells, and movement. When the students are in need of having their senses met, they become wiggly, loud, lose focus, and/or become emotional. Having a swing that free hangs for the students to use throughout the day allows the students to meet a need of sensory input and the ability to learn. Sensory input is crucial to my students' daily schedule. Daily, a student's senses change to needing more or less. Due to this, the needs that need to be met require more than just one item in the classroom sensory area. Having this swing will be a great addition for students to learn to communicate the sensory needs they have through the request of the swing. Just another functional skill learned to become independent!
