I am one of the sheltered teachers in the English department. What that means is that I have a third to a half of the students who are not native English speakers, an overwhelming number of whom speak Spanish, and require additional support. I haven't taken Spanish since I was in high school, so I thank the people at Google for Google translate. I have large classes with one class currently sitting at 48 students who are enrolled, so it is certainly a challenge with so many academic and language levels being represented. When I do make an attempt to speak Spanish, the students are grateful and supportive even though it makes me a nervous wreck. And most of the students are comfortable enough to correct my lousy pronunciation at this point. But I do love watching all of my students progress and learn.
