This Rousseau’s Reading Corner will all my artists to read and learn about wonderful artists such as Frida Kahlo, Vincent Van Gogh, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Yayoi Kusama. I believe these art-based children’s books are wonderful teaching resources that will benefit all of my K-5 students. By using picture books as a teaching resource it will help enhances my student’s understanding of the information and materials discussed in art class. By integrating picture books into my art lessons it helps my students create connections with our writings, topics, and discussions. In my classroom, I am big on integrating literature with art. I want my students to understand the connections between art and literature. In my class, I incorporate as many children's books in my art lessons when possible. I love using children's books that are based on, inspired by, or focused on artists or different art topics. These stories have a ton of beautifully drawn images which are wonderful images for my visual learners. I believe that using these stories as a teaching tool during my lessons creates a better understanding for my students about concepts, art movements, artists, and their artworks. They are fun to read out loud to my students, and they create a more enjoyable learning environment for my artists. These books get my students excited to learn about different art-related topics. It creates an enjoyable teaching experience to be able to read these fun stories together where I pause throughout the story to ask my students questions, thoughts, and opinions. Using visual images in stories I believe is a powerful teaching tool that will become significantly important for many years to come. This Rousseau’s Reading will be also a wonderful resource for my early finishers.
