My students are in dire need of necessary supplies in preparation for the national College Board AP U.S. History exam in May. Many of the students that come through my classroom have limited resources, which can be an obstacle to learning. Regardless of their socioeconomic status, the majority of my students are successful in the classroom and on the national exam. It is customary for most of my students to continue their post-secondary studies as 1st generation college students. Providing much needed supplies for my classroom will aid the students in completing homework assignments, such as their daily reading Cornell Notes. Our class always begins with a historical primary or secondary source HIPP activity which requires a composition notebook, highlighters, post-its, and pens. HIPP is a document analysis strategy that the students very much enjoy. This strategy brings the historical documents to life, making learning history exciting. They look at history through the lens of an amateur historian. So many of my former students often return stating how exciting high school history sparked an interest in the world they currently live in! My classroom and the activities completed throughout the school year foster students who become life-long learners. Providing my students with the appropriate resources will help them complete the year successfully. Each of my students will have access to resources that many consider a luxury.
