  • Graphic Novels for Great Readers

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donations to enable me to get some wonderful graphic novels to add to our collection! Students of all grade levels and reading levels are benefitting from and enjoying these books!

Graphic novels improve literacy skills and encourage kids to dive into books for fun, which is the perfect recipe for a love of reading. I am grateful to be able to have a variety of graphic novels available for the students when they ask, to keep that hunger for reading going! The students are enjoying both fiction books and non-fiction books.

In addition to these wonderful books, I received some book bins to help organize them, which has really helped in finding them and reshelving them.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Caird

  • Refill the Shelves Again

    Funded Nov 16, 2021

Your generous donation to our library has been greatly appreciated! The books that you have provided have been added to our shelves and are regularly checked out.

The pandemic has been very hard on the library. When we left in March of 2020, we sent the students with extra books to read over what we thought would be a few weeks. All last year we were virtual. Your donation helped to replace many of the books that never made it back to the library.

Our library shelves have been refilled with many of the popular books that the students love to read. The students are excited to be back and are excited to read books from the Library again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Caird

  • Non-Fiction in the Library

    Funded Nov 4, 2021

The Scholastic News Magazines have been a great addition to the library reading program! These magazines are non-fiction, current, grade level appropriate, standards-based, and most importantly interesting to the students and get the students excited about reading. All of the teachers have access to the online database, which includes the current editions as well as past editions. Not only can the magazine be read aloud to the student, there are videos, vocabulary, and games related to each issue. Teachers can access additional worksheets to enhance the lesson. The print magazines are split up among grade levels and teachers use them in small groups or as a center in the classroom. Some teachers laminate them to keep for many more uses.

I am so grateful for your generosity! This subscription has benefitted not only the library but all of the teachers and students in the building!”

    With gratitude,

  • Exciting Library Lessons

    Funded Aug 14, 2021

I am so grateful for your donation towards the Teachers Pay Teachers gift certificate! I am a huge fan of Teachers Pay Teachers! I have found so many awesome lessons on this site that are written and developed by teachers.

With the gift cards you contributed to, I was able to purchase resources made by school librarians that are specific to the library such as book care and parts of a book. Other resources that I got were activities to go with specific books, as well as STEAM activities.

I have used many of the resources already this year and still have great resources for the rest of the year.

Once again, thank you so much for your generous offer! I will benefit from this gift over and over!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Caird

  • Refill the Shelves

    Funded Apr 20, 2021

I am so grateful for your generous donation to help replace/add new books to our library! The books are continuously checked out and barely make it back to the shelf before being checked out again. The books contain a great variety of genres, reading levels, and diverse characters, making this project beneficial to all students in the school.

Newer titles, as well as old favorites, are included in this project and are being circulated continuously. Students are enjoying and learning great facts through the Ordinary People Change the World Books by Brad Meltzer. These books combine interesting facts about a person in a graphic novel style of writing. This is just one example of the of the wonderful books that your donations have supplied.

My students are grateful for the books that have been supplied through your donations!”

  • Fun Flexible Seating

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donation of six rectangular ottomans for my students to use in the library for flexible seating. These are a wonderful addition to the library and will give the students another place to relax and enjoy a great book.

My students love coming to the library and especially enjoy listening to read alouds! We enjoy sitting on the carpet and listening to and discussing a great book, but it tends to get uncomfortable sitting on the carpet for longer periods of time, especially for the older elementary students. These ottomans will allow my students to sit comfortably and listen attentively to our lesson. Students will also have a cozy spot to read some of the awesome books they check out. These seats will be easy to clean and protect.

When we are back in person in the fall, my students will find several exciting changes in the library, including these fun flexible seating options. Your donation helps with the transition of the library to a "learning commons" where students come to learn and grow!”

  • Colorful Collaboration

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donations for the purchase of these tables! We have been virtual this year, so I am so excited to go back to school in the fall with a fresh new look in the library.

These tables will add bright colors and the design of the table will foster collaboration between students and engagement in problem solving, something that has been difficult to do virtually.

These tables are going take me closer to my goal of making the library a learning commons, where students can create, collaborate, and explore literacy when we are back in person.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Caird

  • It's TIME for Non-Fiction

    Funded Nov 6, 2020

Thank you for your generous donation of Time for Kids digital access on November 6, 2020. My students are really enjoying learning about current events and news at their reading level. The students are learning how to discuss topics respectfully and share and listen to others' perspectives. The monthly article featuring a debate question has helped my students in learning fact vs. opinion. The students really enjoy seeing and learning about kids their ages doing great things.

Our school is still completely virtual, so the digital access is such a wonderful help for both the students and teachers. The activities are easily adaptable to online learning and use with google classroom.

All students have been enjoying the magazine, especially the ones who prefer non-fiction and current events. The teachers are enjoying having additional content to add to their current curriculum.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Caird

The students in my library classes will use Legos to create characters and setting scenes to tell and retell stories, which will focus on both STEM and literacy skills. Integrating both STEM and literacy skills collectively will fully engage the students to be active learners. Using the Legos, students will create an original story or retell a story they've heard by using their creations. They can also use the letter Legos to reinforce spelling and phonics skills. They may work together as a small group, in pairs, or individually. Having these items will help students not only stay engaged in the lesson but learn to create in unique ways.
