Translation Device Needed for English Language Learners
Funded Oct 21, 2024I wanted to reach out and thank you for your contribution to the translator devices. Although I would love to share a photograph of our students using the devices, I am unable to do so due to privacy concerns. As you may know, student privacy regulations are important, and we must always be mindful of the sensitive nature of our students' personal information. Additionally, some of our students face language barriers that prevent them from writing or communicating easily in English, which makes it challenging for them to write letters of gratitude. However, please know that your donation has made a tremendous difference in their education, even if we cannot provide a photo or a letter from each of them directly.
The translation devices have not only helped students understand lesson content, but they have also encouraged them to feel more engaged in class discussions and activities. For example, students who were once hesitant to participate in group work are now more confident in contributing their thoughts and ideas. This shift in confidence has led to a more inclusive and dynamic learning environment. Teachers have also noted an improvement in the overall classroom atmosphere, as students feel more supported and able to connect with their peers and the content.
Your continued support of our students means the world to us. The resources you have provided give our students a better opportunity to succeed and thrive in their academic journey. It is because of donors like you that we are able to create an environment where every student, regardless of their language abilities, can experience growth and success. We are deeply grateful for your generosity and for the difference you are making in the lives of these students.
Once again, thank you for your kindness and commitment to supporting our classroom. Your donation has truly been a game-changer, and we are incredibly thankful for the positive impact it has had on our students this semester.”

Mrs. Colvin
This classroom project was brought to life by Windows of Hope Foundation.LHS Students for President!
Funded Sep 14, 2024I want to express my gratitude for your generous donation of binders. Your contribution allowed my students to learn about the Executive branch through creating comprehensive "manual" that would onboard a new president. They really enjoyed this project!
I thoroughly believe that project-based learning is the best way for students to learn. With this being an election year, allowing them to work through this project while learning about the election process and role of the executive branch was really meaningful. Some of my students asked to keep their manuals. For those who didn't, I will reuse for this project next year.
Thank you for being a part of this project. I truly appreciate your support!”

Requesting Printer Paper to Support Learning
Funded Oct 21, 2024Thank you so much! It’s October and I’ve already spent over $100 on paper for my classroom. Many teachers have moved to laptop work or do not allow students to write on their handouts, but I strongly believe that kids need to be hands on and engage with work- plus how do you make posters, comic strips, etc. without paper?!
I greatly appreciate your donation!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Windows of Hope Foundation.Big Ideas Call For Even Bigger Post-It Notes!
Funded Jan 9, 2022Thank you so much again for your donation! We have been having so much fun using these resources in class. One project the students did was create a visual timeline of Muhammad's life. The kids worked together to identify key turning points of his life out of a reading, and then they created a visual timeline explaining some of those events. They loved it and many of my Muslim students were very excited to be able to lead their group by sharing their knowledge. The second project was creating a fake Instagram account for a civil rights activist. These are currently hanging on the hallway outside of my classroom. We have been able to do jigsaw activities, station work, and lots of collaborative poster making. Since using these I've seen student engagement increase dramatically! Thank you so much.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Panda Cares and one other donor.Celebrating our Diversity
Funded Jul 28, 2020Thank you again for your support of my "Celebrating our Diversity" project. Because of you my students were actually able to take their eyeballs off the screen and do something artistic and personal, which they really enjoyed (and needed). Their Culture Banners turned out great. Looking at the banners is one thing, but reading what the kids had to say about their cultures is the most powerful part, so I have posted a few of the descriptions below. You can tell how proud they are when they are describing their experiences, traditions and lifestyle. This is always my favorite project because I learn so much about my students as well as other cultures, and I love that they get to learn about each other. This project was powerful because it really allowed my kids to get to know each other on a deeper level. On a discussion board they were able to post their banners and then talk to each other about things they found interesting, things they appreciated, and things they had in common. It was the most engagement I have had all year, and it was really uplifting to see kids connect during this difficult time in education. I wouldn't have been able to do this project in an equitable way without your support, so THANK YOU! I hope you enjoy reading about their banners below.
"This is my banner! Because I'm Korean, I put Korea flag in the middle. In the top right there is a food call 'Kimbap'. That's one of the most famous Korean food in the world!! On the top left there is a language that we use in Korea! If I said that in English it pronounce as 'Hangul'.And the top middle there is a cross that shows many Korean are Christian including me!! But in the past many people were Budism but these days many of them are Christian so that's why in federal way there are many Korean church(there is actually one nearby Todd Beamer!!!) And in the bottom of the banner there is a cloth which is Korea's traditional cloth 'Hanbok'(I actually have one)! And one of the most famous Korea's holiday is 'Children's day'! That day every children get present and in some place like amusement park they discount the price for children or even for free!! And Korean think family as a first thing that's important in their life:) Usually Korean forms 4 members of family! And as in the banner my Korean name is Sumi! And there is also a logo for Korea. Lastly one fun fact(item) of Korea are socks. Many of the socks from Korea has character on it so it's really cute and trending for teenager!!"
"the first one is mexico's flag, our flag represents our country. The green strip represents the independents movement. the white stripe represents the purity of the catholic faith. The red stripe means blood of our heros.
the second one is a Quincenera in a quince dress (the girl in the red dress). A quince is a day to celebrate a girls 15th birthday. a quince is a important milestone for a girl. A quince symbolizes a girls entrance into womanhood. The Quinceneras always tend to wear a big dress.
The third one is a pinata, i chose this one because these are used at in birthday party's or special events. Pinatas were made to be broken by someone. They are usually filled with a lot of candy so that when the pinata is broken all the candy falls out for people to grab. Pinatas were actually invented in Spain but its used a lot by Hispanics.
The forth one is tacos (the plate with tacos at the bottom), I chose tacos because they are a famous dish in mexican culture. Tacos tend to be one of the main dish's in mexican restaurants or at party's. Tacos is a corn tortilla filled with meat, beans, ect and rolled up half way.
The fifth one is bailes folklorico (the woman in the dress with flowers) i chose this because bailes folklorico is a very traditional dance in mexican culture. The dance is a female dancing with a beautiful dress on. the dresses are always filled with bright colorful flowers.
The sixth one is a skull that represents El dia de los muertos (the day of the dead). The day of the dead is remembering our family members or friends we lost. We visit their graves and tend to leave them foods, drinks, clothes, flowers, ect. Its the day our friends and family's spirits come back for a day to receive our gifts that we left on their graves. El dia de los muertos is not a sad day, its a day to remember our people that are no longer with us.
The seventh one is Nahuatl language (right side of the pinata) , i chose Nahuatl language (also known as aztec language) because this language is one of mexico's native language. This language is still being used in mexico to this day. The word that i put in my banner is "hi" but its just in Nahuatl language.
The last little drawing is the Chichen Itza ( the pyramid) which means "a month of well itza", is the 2nd most visited site in mexico today. The pyramid in Chichen-itza, now including one of the new 7 wonders of the world. It is located in Yucatan, Mexico. i chose it because this pyramid will forever go down in mexican history."
"Philippine flag: The flag Represents a sense of pride. When you see the flag it represents culture and unity as a person. We see the flag and it represents the same struggles and hardships as immigrants.
Mahjong: Mahjong is important to me because it's a game anyone can play no matter if your old or young. It's importance comes from its ability to bring family together.
Chinese red envelopes: They are a tradition in my culture for an elder to give money to children on special occasions to give them a sign of good wealth and success.
Music: Music is important to me because as a Filipina it is engraved into our culture. From karaoke to playing instrument, and music is another aspect that brings family together.
Filipiniana dress: It's a traditional dress for Filipina's to wear on very special occasion like festivals or parties. It represents the old modern ways, where you have to wear/ dress nice on a daily basis, unlike now where we are able to be free with what you wanna wear.
Filipino food: Food is a cornerstone of being a true Filipino. Whether it's cooking food or eating the actual food. Our culture revolves around a plate of rice and variety of different dishes served like a buffet. These recipes that are passed down from generation to generation represent a culture centered on passion, love, and respect. When Filipinos eat, it isn't just about the flavor, but sitting at a table and sharing a meal with those important to us.
Family: The core to a Filipino family is all about the respect. This is unanimous with most Filipino families. From a young age we are taught to respect your elder and that family comes first.
Religion(catholic): To most Filipinos religion is a big part in life and who we are as a person."”

Mrs. Colvin
