It's hard to be a good teacher when all new curriculum relies on the use of technology and the laptop that's hooked up to the smartboard buffers and circles in a constant holding pattern. As a class, we use the SmartBoard to showcase science simulations, interactive math lessons, exemplar writing samples, slide presentations, and videos. The whole class will gather in the back of the room and have a pre-discussion while we try to access the activity. Many times I have to be prepared with plan B, knowing that the computer will glitch or freeze. Students will benefit from this technology in many ways. For the visual learner, it helps bring lessons to the forefront, such as a science simulation where students have to decide how the light reflects off the prey into the predator's eyes so that I can see its food. Additionally, students will be able to look at and discuss other student's work in ways to improve their own work in the future. In math students be able to conceptualize numbers through interactive activities. The possibilities are endless!
