In an effort to promote our school's Literacy Goals and get kids reading more, we are creating several "Hallbraries" within our building. These will be cozy nooks within our school, with a shelf full of donated books that students can borrow, take, keep, return or share with others. We see these hallbraries as warm, inviting spaces, with a cozy rug, soft chairs for relaxing and reading in, and lots of books for students to get their hands on. Maybe they have a mentor buddy who comes to read with them and they could choose to go to this space. Or maybe they have reached a goal with their teacher and as a reward have earned some free time exploring and enjoying these inviting spaces. Perhaps they they quickly grab a book off the shelf as they pass by so they can take a book with them to keep at home. Either way, it will help foster positive reading experiences for many students who need them!
