Through the arts students thrive in learning through play, planning, experimenting and revising. Even greater would be the ability to join science, math and the arts with the use of technology. With these STEM robots my students will be able to create a visual and physical representation of the pathway designed for the robot to follow. Just as an architect plans a building on paper for it to then come to fruition, so will the upper grade level students see their sketches come to life as new artworks as the robots glide across the paper. Students will design a park for the community with pathways and recreational spaces, such as a swing set, a splash pad or even a soccer field or basketball court. Utilizing their ideas and knowledge of the community in need, students will code the robot to create the pathways and outline the areas for activities in order to create a blueprint. Younger grade levels can use the STEM robots to create a map of a city. Large paper can be spread across the ground as the students work in teams to drag paint across the paper with the robots to design their city streets. From there the students can design the tops of the buildings from a bird's eye view. Having these STEM robots will open the world of technology up for my students as they explore the visual arts in the modern age.
