Students will be learning about the evolution of various adaptations that organisms have to solve the problems of living. They will look at plants, animals and other organisms and which traits are conserved for survival, or are adapted in unique ways for survival. Students will also research some of the major environmental and health issues facing our world today, then attempt to come up with a solution by designing a prototype of a tool that would help solve this problem by using adaptations similar to those found in nature. They will be consulting with engineers, artists, and architects to get feedback on their designs. The Promethean board will help the students with software programs as well as being able to get better feedback from consultants. Their laptops are small Macbooks, and they cannot install certain types of programming on them. Students will present to the class and consultants the problem they are trying to solve, as well as 3 different organisms in nature that also have evolved traits that attempt to solve the problem, their reason for choosing this problem to tackle, and their design. They will explain how the tool works, how it could be produced, and why it is important.
