  • A.P. Psychology 2.0

    Funded Oct 11, 2024

I cannot express my appreciation for your support for my AP Psychology class. I have already purchased a new curriculum and am using it every day. The students benefit from the extended practice of concepts and the fun activities, such as creating an amusement park that caters to different neurotransmitters that students need to be familiar with.

Additional activities included experiments that students performed during our unit on sensation and perception including testing to see if they were supertasters or not. The college board curriculum only covers content but does not offer any ideas on how to make the curriculum more engaging. My students and I appreciate the new resources and I will make good use of them for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Yoshimura

  • Educating for Change!

    Funded Aug 3, 2023

Thank you for your contribution towards the purchased of a class set of Ibraham's Kendi's book "Stamped". We are halfway through the book and the text has become our primary resource in learning US History through a non-dominant lens.

Without your support, I would be scouring the internet or relying on a book that was written before Clinton was impeached. Your dedication towards curriculum that fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion is to be commended.

My class is very diverse - gender identity, race, religion, socio-economically - we are a hodgepodge. The students really appreciate having the opportunity to read a book different than the dominant narrative found in the textbook.”

  • History ALIVE! Engaging Lessons for High School Students

    Funded May 10, 2023

I'm not going to lie. I have been teaching United States History for 29 years and it has never been more challenging than it has been in recent years. With aging textbooks that fail to speak to our school's student population, I need to supplement has much as possible.

With your generosity, I received the supplemental books that will allow me to approach the subject from multiple perspectives and with an anti-racist lens. I could not do this without you.

If you donated to my project, than I know my approach resonates with you in some way. I will continue to teach the change makers of today. Please continue to show up and to support our youth. They are our future.”

  • My Famous Brain!

    Funded Dec 20, 2022

The students in Advanced Placement Psychology appreciate the supplies that you helped to purchase. They used the supplies to create a celebrity brain 2D or 3D image of someone famous. They were instructed to include at least 7 parts of the brain that we studied during our unit on the brain and describe how the celebrity utilizes that part of their brain in relation to their work.

Students chose artists, musicians, athletes, scientists, politicians, and cartoon characters. Their work was fun and creative and I wish I could post all of the photos. I chose a few to demonstrate their work.

I am thankful to have such a supportive community.”

  • National Board Teacher Upgrade in Progress!

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

I'm excited to begin my journey toward National Board Certification. As a veteran teacher, I can sometimes be set in my ways. Exploring National Boards allows me the opportunity to be reflective on my work as an educator and the room to continue to grow along with a group of colleagues of varying levels of experience. New ideas can be shared between those newly graduated from college and educated with the latest pedagogy in education and veterans like myself.

I am appreciative of the support you are providing me in obtaining my National Boards. Without the support of the community, this would not be possible.”

  • Psyched About Psych!

    Funded Aug 25, 2022

Thank you for supporting my three classes in Advanced Placement Psychology. With your donations, I was able to purchase many resources from Teachers Pay Teachers. These resources included many. hands-on activities and projects such as the Memory Palace project I have posted photos of. Other activities include Escape Rooms to review for exams and practice test questions to help prepare students for the AP Test in May. Without your support, I would not be able to offer students the most current curriculum in an exciting and engaging way.”

  • Won't Stop Believin', Posters and Ink Are What We're Needin'

    Funded Mar 11, 2022

I am so excited about the new purchases that have arrived from Donor's Choose. I can't tell you how thankful students are for the printer ink. They are always needing to print things and often have "run out of ink" at home. We are excited to be able to print projects for US History class and in color!

The classroom is also taking shape as school work is up on the walls now bringing color, character, and a sense of ownership to the space. I have other teachers commenting on how welcoming the space in and I'm so proud of our students for their hard work and effort.

Thank you also for the additional materials that we are using to review key material AP US History. With the framework constantly changing, it's nice to have current resources available for our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Yoshimura

  • Why Not Try Wifi to Make Teaching Easy As Pie?

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

Thank you so much for your support of our classroom project. We have a very crowded school and classrooms are shared by teachers and full every period of the day. When traveling from classroom to classroom, teachers need to tailor their instructions to the available technology in a given room. In some rooms, there are Apple TVs and a teacher or student can project their lesson or presentation wirelessly from the iPad or by using their phones. Other classrooms still use document cameras that are wired to laptops that you need to sign in and out of and then find your files to present. We lose class time with this method.

Your contribution helped to purchase 2 new Apple TVs that allow for not only my classes to benefit but the classes of other teachers that utilize the room. Lessons can immediately be projected by connecting an iPad or laptop wirelessly to the projector that is connected to the Apple TV. The ease of use and simplicity that it offers to teachers and students is invaluable.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Yoshimura

I truly believe that a classroom should be an inviting place. Bare walls are not something we should have in any classroom. I want to make my classroom a place where students are invited to engage in the course work by posting current events, inspirational quotes, pictures of places in the world, hanging works of students, posters, maps, and seasonal décor. Students learn both actively and passively and surrounding them with positive messages that promote equity in the classroom, maps of areas of the world they are studying, and color printouts of their work will both motivate and engage them in their coursework.
