  • Professional in Training

    Funded Jun 1, 2023

We thank you so much for your support and generosity. Because of your contributions, we have new "just-right" leveled books in our classroom library to read. You have made it possible to have materials of high interest that middle schoolers are excited to explore!

Also, we have you to thank for the necessary supplies we need to enrich our Life Skills program. Our kitchen is stocked with new utensils and appliances. Now we practice cooking, cleaning, and dining etiquette regularly and that is helping us to become more confident, independent and "Professionals In Training"!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Borleis

  • Back to the Basics

    Funded Nov 1, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our Life Skills training program! the students and I are so grateful for the surplus materials that make the classroom run a bit smoother.

The students were especially appreciative of the snack packs you provided. Middle School students are always hungry! Having a snack to share at break time fills up empty stomachs to keep focused on learning, and also give an opportunity to practice manners and table etiquette.

Thank you again for taking interest in helping our classroom! You are a hero to us!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Borleis

  • Middle School, Here We Come!

    Funded May 12, 2022

The school year is off to a positive start, and your contributions had a lot to do with making that happen. The students transitioning from the elementary to our middle school level have settled into a routine and have adapted to this new learning environment.

The time timer and the hanging chart have been especially helpful for alerting the students to what the schedule of tasks are and how much they are expected to stay focused.

The stamp kits, tactile letters and alphabet magnets are really helping develop reading readiness and letter-sound recognition as well.

Thanks for your generosity and support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Borleis

  • Reaching Reluctant Readers

    Funded Apr 29, 2022

Thanks for your generous gift of high interest reading books too our special education classroom. The middle schoolers that I work with are already digging in and enjoying them.

These books are important because they are written at the current ability level that the students are at, (second and third grade level readers), but cover topics like empathy, bullying, earning respect and peer pressure, which are topics of interest to teens. It is great to have books that the students can relate to and not feel embarrassed to practice reading with them.

With these books, students will have more enthusiasm for reading intervention class, which in turn will help them develop the reading skills that will help them gain ground in catching up with their peers in the regular classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Borleis

  • MOJO for Reluctant Readers

    Funded May 19, 2020

Thank you for the classroom resources! We are exploring the science trade books that came in the package and utilizing the fluency kits to increase reading stamina. The Mindfulness Journals will be used during advisory time by students who are learning to practice self-regulation and adapting to challenging social situations.

This school year is starting out to be one for the history books, with unprecidented changes to the way we teach and work with children. It was a real pleasure to return to school and find a box full of brand new, useful materials to incorporate into teaching and assessments of students.

Thanks again for your generosity and willingness to help!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Borleis

The students in my reading intervention class are significantly below their current grade placement. Some, when assessed, are found to be at the first grade reading level while they are currently placed in the eighth grade classroom. They need to practice reading fluency and comprehension, but need materials to do this that they will not perceive as "baby books". Please help our class get some differentiated literacy books and practice materials so that the students can close the gap and catch up to their mainstream peers! We would really appreciate materials that they can use to practice and use independently, especially books written in common, lower-lexiled words and phrases, but with topics that appeal to teenage students.
