The majority of our school population is composed of low income families. We have students that show up without school supplies (especially color pencils and compositions books). I have some supplies available in class. Unfortunately because of the pandemic I would like to eliminate sharing of school supplies as a prevention of spreading COVID-19. This project will give my students an opportunity to express themselves creatively about their learning experience and allow me add rigor to their instruction. At the beginning of each unit students will observe an anchoring phenomenon then will express their wonders in their notebooks. Instead of using traditional worksheets daily students will capture their understanding of the concepts creating sketch notes. At the end of unit students will be given a summative task (one pager) that will capture the scientific concepts of the unit, using appropriate scientific vocabulary. The notebook will also be used as a student portfolio at the end of the school year.
