Encouraging students to explore their creativity through writing promotes self-expression, self-confidence and the capability to improve their communication. Our class currently has iPads but do not have keyboards to use to practice their writing as well as learn the skill of typing. I have witnessed a lot of frustration in my students when they try and use the iPad keyboard to type out their thoughts. I truly believe these frustrations would be minimized and even more creativity would be able to flow from each student if they were able to utilize a keyboard. Through the use of daily writing prompts I have seen amazing growth in my students, academically and emotionally. Writing has become a way for them to be heard and a passion they want to explore. Through encouraging my students to apply critical thought to their writing I have seen my students connect on a deeper level with the content and it has really encouraged academic maturity in the pieces they create. They have also had the opportunity to share this writing with their peers which has had a noticeable positive impact on the classroom community. One hinderance to this being the best experience possible for the students is the problem of not having keyboards for them to use and having them rely solely on the iPad’s keyboards. It would be amazing to see how the students would grow in their writing if having the capability of using a real keyboard. Any support you can give to making this happen would be greatly appreciated. And more importantly thank for contributing to the best possible academic experiences for these amazing students!
