Reading for Joy!
Funded Dec 16, 2020Because of your generosity, I was able to send home 7-8 books per student. This is a huge step in supporting literacy at home!
We are hoping that in conjunction with the strategies and skills we share with parents, this might help develop our students as readers in meaningful ways. The books students received were selected to maximize engagment and interest. They are also levelled appropriately to challenge students as readers.
I have had students want to read the books to me or ask me to read the books to them during our Zooom sessions. Other students have told me that they are enjoying the books as bedtime stories with their parents.
Thank you for helping to set up a culture of reading in my classroom!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Han
Passion Projects at Home!
Funded May 7, 2020During the initial closure of schools, many of my students were left without any connection to learning. We were struggling to provide hotspots to every family who needed one. In addition, many of these families faced sudden financial insecurity.
I really wanted my students to have something that could remind them of the joy and rewards that come naturally with learning.
These students were able to have a couple of books in a topic of interest, and art supplies to demonstrate and display their learning. My students were so incredibly excited and overjoyed. Though it was just a small learning kit, I like to think it was significant in bringing them happiness and feeling cared for.
Thank you!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Han

Funded Jan 20, 2020Thanks to your contributions, the resources have greatly enhanced my students' learning in literacy. I've been able to incorporate literacy stations that directly address my students' needs for multi-sensory learning experiences. The hands-on component I have been able to add addresses all of the learning needs in my classroom- my students with IEPs, and my students who are English language learners.
Before the school closures prompted by COVID-19, the literature that was purchased was a lovely addition to our daily community circles. As we transition into remote learning, I have been continuing the read alouds via Zoom. Because the literature was heavily focused around themes of social-emotional learning, I truly believe that it will continue to help in developing a tool-kit of strategies my students can use during this challenging time.
My students currently face so much uncertainty but I find some comfort in knowing that your contribution has helped me in providing my students with the very best education both in terms of academic content, and in social-emotional learning.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Han
