Multiple drug resistant bacteria are becoming more and more prevalent in society. The eminent danger is that medicine will run out of effective antibiotics before we understand how antibiotic resistance in bacteria develops. There has never been a greater need of trained microbiologists as there is now. Exploring the path towards drug-resistance in bacteria requires proper tools and a student's curiosity. By using precision pH measurements and bacterial growth media my students can learn practical applicable techniques needed in clinical and experimental micro biology. Using these supplies they can experience the effects of antibiotics on harmless strains of bacteria before moving on to a career in microbiology.
