This project will address the academic and social emotional issues that emerged during the pandemic. The infomational book resources I am requesting will promote Nevada Academic Content Standards for English Language Arts including: RI4.1, RI4.2, RI4.3, RI4.4, RI4.5, RI4.6, RI4.7, RI4.8, RI4.9, RI4.10; RF4.3, RF4.4; W4.8, W4.10. Reading fluency and comprehension will increase as students read non-fiction books. As students independently read the informational books, they will use the books to practice and show what they are learning in daily mini lessons. For example, after a lesson on using context clues to identify the meaning of unknown words, students will use one of these books to search for and identify the meaning of unknown words. Another example is that after a lesson on summary, students will write a summary of the chapter they read that day. Most importantly these resources will also help to meet the social and emotional needs of students! The pandemic left many students feeling isolated. Through literature students will connect with the world by learning about amazing places and destinations. Their empathy will increase as they learn from historical events and through the experiences of historical figures. Books are therapeutic and have the power to heal . Students will also be able to access the wobble stools in the classroom library area to help aid in stress reduction and gain physical benefits that will help improve focus and productivity throughout the day!
