Flexible seating lets students decide where and how they'll sit to learn, NOT learn to sit. Flexible seating encourages children to share space and supplies. It allows students to find comfortable positions throughout the classroom. Comfortable students are calm, focused, and productive. Flexible seating is a way to give students the freedom to choose. Movement, comfort, and sensory input are also key components to this arrangement in my classroom. I plan on using flexible seating all throughout my classroom, allowing the options each day. All students learn differently, and they also feel comfortable in different seats, spaces, and areas. Middle school students are growing and maturing and they aren't always comfortable in traditional seats. My goal is to increase student engagement while providing a safe and fun learning environment. I am very excited to use flexible seating in my classroom. From my experience with middle school students, I realize my students work better when they are allowed to move around. They also see the flexible seating as a fun way to learn. I want my students to leave each day with a positive mindset about school and I am confident flexible seating will have an impact on their school year. Thank you in advance for your help with this initiative.
