My kindergarten students need literacy rich materials that include instructional texts and a leveled library. This project would allow my students to have books for shared readings and independent time in our classroom.
The more books children have access to, the more their love of reading is able to grow.
"There is simply nothing easier, that gets kids reading with tremendous volume, or that lifts reading skills higher than a collection of truly fabulous books.”
I have specifically chosen the classroom bookshelves from the Units of Study for kindergarten that I know my students will need to make our classroom successful. Our classroom is set up in a reading workshop model so these bookshelves would be accessible to them each and every day. My students will be choosing books that interest them and then spending time independently practicing with these books in their book boxes.
These books will also help my students increase their writing skills through mentor texts that they will be able to see often. These bookshelves include books that will be used to demonstrate when teaching writing as well. I know this project will help my students become more successful and build a foundation for their lifelong learning!
