  • Let's Get Laminating For Success

    Funded Jan 17, 2024

Thank you for the binders, laminate, velcro and cardstock to assemble our Teachtown curriculum! We have been using the materials with great success!

Our students learn with multi-sensory strategies and clear instructions and materials at a level that they can understand and also be challenged.

Thank you for caring about our students in rm 19!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Martinez

  • Learning With Visuals

    Funded Dec 15, 2021

Our students have thoroughly enjoyed our new resources. They especially like learning with realistic flash cards. The cards are by category and they name what they see such as a whisk, spoon, blender, etc. There are lots of categories that were included so the students get to learn everyday items.

We also purchased some great materials that give them choices to help with comprehension. There are short passages with a choice of two or three answers depending on ability.

These resources have been so helpful to our students with autism. We were also able to laminate them to ensure they will be used by many students for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Martinez

  • Communicate Thru Shapes

    Funded Mar 12, 2022

Thank you soooo much for helping our students at Falcon Hill! These items will be loved and appreciated. We cannot wait to receive them and put them to good use by exploring our curiosity and expanding our thinking and comprehension.

Learning by play can unlock so much potential and see things we would be unable to capture with pencil and paper.

Again, thank you for funding this project!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Martinez

  • Going Grocery Store Shopping

    Funded Aug 17, 2020

May I say thank you, thank you, thank you, for the "grocery store" and "build" resources!!!

My students have loved it! They love to build burgers, ice cream cones, sushi, etc. This has helped them to expand their food choices, follow directions, and gives them a great life skill that they can use when going out into the workforce.

When they first saw the pictures of all of the different foods, they had no idea that you could make so many different sandwiches! They get truly excited when we learn a new food such as "salami".

We have also used the google slides to go thru basically a "virtual grocery store". They can put food in their carts and also get an idea of how much it would be. What fun it is for them with the added bonus to learn a great life skill at the same time.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Martinez

  • "Cooking Up" Social Skills

    Funded Jan 26, 2020

We are blown away by everyone's generosity. Because of COVID-19 we did not get to use everything this year, but we really enjoyed opening them up and got to use some of it.

I have 9 students with autism in my class, and each of them participated in preparing the new materials for use. We talked about some things that we might make, or what you would use them for.

I am a huge advocate for life-skills, and what a blessing it was to receive all of these items.

Thanks again from all of us at Falcon Hill - Rm 19!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Martinez

Every week we make a recipe that uses various kitchen items such as a waffle maker or a toaster oven. The toaster oven can be used to make pizza, grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken nuggets - ALL items that are favorites for students with autism. We also teach them cooking vocabulary such as mixing, pouring, chopping, slicing, measuring, etc. using our utensils and bowls, measuring cups and spoons. Students get very excited when they get to measure and pour ingredients into a bowl! Getting familiar with kitchen items also expands their palate as students with autism often eat the same type of foods. Doing a different recipe every week gives them exposure to all types of foods and textures. We encourage them to smell, touch, and taste the food. This can often be a challenge for our students. Most of our students are non-verbal with severe autism and require visual recipes. These resources will enable them to learn how to cook from beginning to end - identifying the ingredients and tools, making the recipe, and eating it!
