The main goal and objective of my project is to build on children's interests, and to take full advantage in order to move them to a higher level of learning. These goals and objectives can be achieved by providing as many opportunities for learning and connecting the real world to geometry and its buildings. Children will be engaged by exploring ways to build a replica of some buildings under construction in our community. Students will be provided with real blueprints to identify shapes and use blocks, magnetic shapes, and other manipulatives to build. Children will also be provided with real pictures of our local construction sites. Children will choose what building they want to build, then take pictures of their work and display it during open house. During open house children will have an opportunity to explain their work to parents. This study will offer peer interaction by sharing materials and space, providing opportunities for extended conversations that involve reasoning, and understanding of each other ideas. In addition, students will learn to recognize shapes and their characteristics when presented in different orientations. Learn the properties of size, length, weight, or capacity, and describe the differences between them. Finally, children will use some materials to role play as they are building.
