My students do not have many opportunities at home that many of us assume that most students have at home. Many of my students come from homes living in poverty but also where their parents are low functioning and/or intellectually disabled as well. My students don't have access to toys or books or other educationally stimulating materials. What my students experience and learn at school is often the only exposure that they have to education. These materials and learning centers will allow my students to practice their communication skills, academic skills, and daily living skills. They will be able to practice categorizing and sorting objects. While my students will never be able to live on their own, any tools that they can have to help themselves will benefit them not only in my class but in their futures.
