Funded Jan 19, 2022Thank you so much for your donations! My students were so excited when they saw our new cooking cart. The cart has made transporting cooking materials to various classrooms a breeze, and the kids loving working at the cart to create tasty treats. Some of our favorite treats have included quesadillas, grilled cheese sandwiches, mini bundt cakes, and rice krispy treats. Cooking has been one of our favorite language activities for the past few years, but the recipe preparation has gotten so much easier now that we have a cart to transport our materials and work at. We are so grateful for you and your donations!”

Yer a Wizard, 811Q!
Funded Oct 21, 2021Thank you for bringing the wizarding world of Harry Potter to life for our students! The students look forward to the lessons every week. Some of our students are unable to read chapter books, but with your donations we have been able to purchase and create our own adaptive books. We have our students working in two reading groups: those who have the skills to read chapter books, and those who need some more support and read the adaptive books. Regardless of what group they are in, our students are working on reading skills, socialization (calling on peers to read), question and answering with staff and peers, making predictions, identifying story grammar markers, and recalling key facts and details. We have had fun and immersive lessons: taste testing Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans and getting sorted into our Hogwarts houses! This has been incredibly fun and engaging, thanks to you! You've really made a difference.”

Funded Jan 23, 2020Thank you so much for giving us the gift of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)! I requested an iPad to use with my nonverbal students who do not have iPads or AAC devices of their own. We immediately began using the iPad with AAC software, such as GoTalk and Snap Core First, during classroom activities and out in the community to request and comment with community workers.
When the pandemic effected our school, I was disappointed that I would not be able to share this new iPad with students, face-to-face, as we navigated through remote learning. However, we quickly learned how to adapt and use this iPad through distance learning! I was able to take screenshots of the AAC boards we created in our apps, and send them to families, so they may print the photos and use them for AAC at home.
We also learned how to use the app Boom Learning to share distance learning activities from our iPad to their own technology at home! Now that we are back in the building, we are using the iPad, face-to-face, once more! The students love it! Thank you for giving us a voice!”

Ms. Gabby
