  • Getting Ready for a New Adventure! SPEECH!

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

Thank you so much for your gracious donations to support my students with speech sound disorders this year! I can't begin to tell you how much it has helped me help my students! Well, I guess I could a little! First off the Super Duper Articulation cards are amazing, we use them quite literally 4 days per week many times per day! Certainly not a wasted investment! Secondly, the foam magnets have been incredibly helpful too in working with my students that have goals related to receptive language and following simple to complex directions! We use them very frequently as well with our Pre-K and Kindergarten students.

The 24 pack of sensory fidget toys have all been amazing as well. My students not only are able to cope better with their first-time meetings with me, but they also motivate my students to keep coming back and working hard on their targeted speech sounds! They are excited to come and play with the toys each session once their work is done! The whisper phones have been invaluable and my kids find my fake street sign door sign amusing and fun!

    Thanks so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Belcher

  • Teaching Essential Technologies in the Modern Age!

    Funded Oct 22, 2020

I am so grateful for this opportunity to teach our elementary students about cutting edge technologies and bolster their confidence regarding their capability to compete for future cutting edge careers as technology advances in the world. It opens up doors for our students they otherwise couldn't imagine would exist for us in this socioeconomically depressed area!

Thank you so much! We will put these materials to use! They should arrive just in time to make the biggest impacts.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Belcher

  • Teaching Basic Economics Using Movies and Games.

    Funded May 23, 2020

While COVID-19 has impacted our original plan a little, the students were still very excited for the materials! As I'm sure the pictures will evidence!

We still watched UP, we still learned about fiscal responsibility and basic financial literacy using our Google Slides presentation. We learned about Interest, the difference between Debit Cards & Credit Cards, we learned about disposable income, and lots more!

We still completed our worksheets on UP and financial literacy, still completed our Quiz over the topics we learned about both in the movie and during the Slides presentation.

And we still got to read the backs of the board games and get excited about the fun still to come when restrictions are loosened and we are allowed to share materials again and can have all the fun in the world reviewing!

We couldn't have these fun lessons without your support! Thanks so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Belcher

  • Coding You Can Feel

    Funded Feb 14, 2020

We had a slight delay due to a shipping issue. We have now received our supplies for this project! We had an unexpected few snow days last week but first thing today I had Kindergarten help me open the supplies and our support staff help us install the board!

We are going to get pictures of our own personal touch to the board, and some sneak peeks of the work behind it as we go along! Be on the lookout! Thank you all again for all that you are doing for our students! They couldn't be more excited!

Currently we are working on coding, typing using home row keys, and learning about computer science topics in Virginia using google slides. We are excited to do more fundraising and more special projects in the future!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Belcher

These computer building components will allow our students to build their confidence in their computer science knowledge and understandings by putting the knowledge to use in a practical way with a real world context. It will allow our students to engage in authentic assessment without even realizing they are being informally assessed. Students in rural socioeconomically depressed areas will get the opportunity to see for themselves how the knowledge they are gaining about computers and computer science is valuable and can lead to a brighter future. It will allow them to sharpen their logical thinking, critical thinking, and analytical thinking skills in addition to building their self-confidence and self-efficacy mindsets. This will be a "station" type project that takes places inside of the technology lab and will be worked on by 2 students at a time until all students have rotated through the build with teacher supervision and assistance.
