This Calming Cube and other materials will provide a safe, relaxing, non-judgmental space that will be used in a variety of ways. It will be used as a space to self-calm, have alone time, and a quiet place to read, or listen to books on tape. It will reduce off task behavior and help re-orient students to academics when they are ready. The Calming Cube will help further help develop the social skills that I teach such as "I Can Use My Words" by using it as a tool when a student is unsure of their emotions and may need a little time and assistance to contemplate how they are feeling before they discuss with me how they are feeling and what they need to do before they can rejoin the class for academic activities. The sand, snakes, and play doh mats will also allow students to self-regulate by choosing activities that are naturally soothing and relaxing.
