In my speech and language classroom, specifically with my pre-school students with severe communication deficits, we learn early concepts like letters, numbers, shapes, how to answer questions, how to follow directions, and additional language concepts that will help them be successful in the classroom. Additionally, I travel to various buildings within our district so large technology equipment such as a smart board is not a viable options for me to utilize.
Technology such as the Surface go or an IPad would allow me to access resources digitally to use with my students and also would allow those resources to be accessed in various buildings/learning environments. We do several activities that require a response from students to questions and several of my students do not have typical verbal communication. So by providing them with a device such as a surface go or an ipad in which they can respond by making a choice, choosing a picture (i.e., touching something on the screen), or typing letters this will allow my students to participate in activities to a greater extend and benefit from education while at school. Additionally, it will decrease any limitations presented by fine motor deficits by simplifying their need for fine motor skills in order to communicate.
Finally, the use of technology such as the surface go in my classroom will allow more students to benefit from the technology because it would be a mobile form of technology that could be used in multiple building rather than be specific to one physical classroom.
