This project pairs with Book March Madness, which was started several years ago by two teachers in Columbus, Ohio. It mirrors March Madness in basketball, with an online bracket system that pairs books in "games" each week until there is one winner. This year's theme is Brave and Bold. Suspense and excitement build quickly in this project! Last year was the first year our students took part in Book March Madness - excitement about reading grew so quickly! That excitement also lead to student-initiated conversations about books. There is something hugely rewarding about listening to 11 year olds talk about books during lunch and recess! Students watch book trailers to aid in their decision-making while filling out their brackets. They vote once a week through a Google Form that is linked to the Book March Madness website. Students are able to view a map showcasing all the countries who are participating. This global collaboration is so important and necessary in today's world.
