Each child is different in what they need (movement, deep pressure, oral input, tactile input, etc.). The variety of sensory tools available will give them options to choose what will best help them to be able to re-focus, calm their bodies, and return to class ready to learn. The kinetic sand and Orbeez will help provide calming tactile input through play and exploration in a sensory bin. The body sock will help provide deep pressure and movement to assist the students in feeling calm. The weighted stuffed animal and sequin animal will provide calming tactile input as well as deep pressure input. The stretchy fidgets and chew necklaces will help provide students with the tactile and oral input that they're seeking to help them focus in class. These tools will help my students learn how to meet their individual sensory needs and re-engage in classroom activities. Many of my students have difficulties with self-regulation skills. They often have a hard time participating in class due to low frustration tolerance, anxiety, attention difficulties, etc. and do not have the coping skills for how to deal with these big emotions. My students will be able to learn coping skills and become more independent and successful learners through use of these tools.
